Do you speak the language? (QUIZ)

Updated September 2017

How Well Does The Hotel Industry Understand Jargon?

The ‘Hotel Language Quiz’ from Hotel Speak launched in February 2016 and ended in September 2017. During this time, a total of 973 people completed the quiz and we thought it would be fun to take a look at the results to see just how well the industry ‘speaks hotels’.

The Results

Of the 973 who completed the quiz, the average score was an impressive 72%, with an average time spent on the quiz of just over 11 minutes.

  • The most commonly known term was F&B (Food & Beverage) – 93% answered correctly.
  • The least commonly known term was RDR (Residential Delegate Rate) – only 34% answered correctly
  • Surprisingly, 16% of participants didn’t know what OTA (Online Travel Agents) typically stands for with 3% guessing ‘Opaque Travel Agents’.
  • RevPAR (or Revenue Per Available Room) proved tricky too – 40% of participants didn’t know what this stood for.
  • Only 56% of participants knew that Worldspan, Galileo and Amadeus are typically know as types of GDS (Global Distribution Systems)
